In the Spotlight -
Meet Tessa Clement.

At AI4ALL we’d like to inspire others by featuring female role models that are making a difference in AI. We aim to empower women who are working in AI by highlighting their success stories. This way we hope to inspire other women and girls to get into STEM-related fields. In our series ‘In the Spotlight’ we shine a light on an expert in the field and today we’d like you to meet Tessa Clement.

AI4ALL Spotlight on Tessa Clement
Tessa Clement, founder of Panacea AI and tech lead behind Robin

Tessa’s Path from Law to Life-Changing AI

Tessa didn’t start in tech; she actually studied law. “I quickly realized my heart wasn’t in the courtroom. It was in the kind of room where real-world solutions get built,” she explains. When the chance came to train as a software engineer, she took it without hesitation, opening the door to a career in healthcare, where technology can directly improve people’s quality of life.

She began her new career as a machine learning engineer, working on early-stage AI pilots in this high-impact sector. Over time, she became tech lead for Robin, a speech-to-text tool for mental health care. Through this experience, Tessa gained insight into how thoughtfully designed AI can reduce administrative burden, improve healthcare access, and give professionals more time to focus on patients. That hands-on experience sparked a bigger vision: the founding of Panacea AI, a boutique studio dedicated to creating responsible, human-centered AI solutions that are ready for real-world impact.

How Developing Robin Inspired a Human-Centered AI studio

Robin is a speech-to-text assistant developed to reduce the administrative burden on mental health professionals by automatically transcribing and structuring their clinical notes. The goal is simple: more time for care, less time spent on paperwork.

Tessa joined Robin at its earliest stage as the sole tech lead, when the project was little more than a rough prototype. Over six months, she transformed it into a fully functional, compliant, and launch-ready product. “I built the core technical foundation myself, from integrating large language models and setting up the cloud infrastructure to running user tests,” she said proudly.

But her role went beyond engineering. Tessa also led the full legal and compliance track, ensuring Robin met all relevant regulations, including the EU AI Act and GDPR. She drafted the necessary documentation and coordinated external legal reviews, creating a system that was safe, compliant, and trustworthy from day one. This dual perspective, both technical and regulatory, allowed them to innovate quickly without compromising safety or trust.

“I saw what is possible when healthcare AI is built with speed, precision and responsibility."

Robin officially launched in February and is now in use at four Dutch mental health institutions, with more institutions lined up to follow. Tessa was involved in every phase, from product demos and adoption meetings to developing and delivering onboarding training for student support teams.

“Through Robin, I saw what’s possible when healthcare AI is built with speed, precision and responsibility,” she shared. That hands-on experience didn’t just build a useful tool; it built a vision. It became the foundation for Panacea AI, where Tessa now turns ambitious AI ideas into real-world solutions that make a difference.

Panacea AI: Ethical, Human-Centered Solutions for High-Impact AI

Inspired by the Greek goddess of universal healing, Panacea AI offers a modern-day remedy for the fast-evolving world of artificial intelligence. The studio helps organizations navigate complex AI systems and regulations, providing tailored solutions that are both safe and effective.

Tessa combines her expertise in software engineering and legal compliance to build ethical, compliant AI solutions, with a natural focus on health tech and other high-impact domains. “My goal is to responsibly and practically help organizations turn ambitious AI ideas into tools that truly make a difference,” she emphasized.

Making a Difference with AI in Healthcare

Tessa’s influence goes beyond a single project. By demonstrating how to develop AI responsibly and effectively in healthcare, she is sparking innovation across the field, showing other teams what is possible when technical skill and ethical insights come together.

Through Panacea AI, she helps organizations navigate the complexities of AI regulation, turning ambitious ideas into real-world solutions that improve lives. Her approach is not just about building tools — it’s about shaping a culture of responsible AI, where safety, compliance, and human impact are central from the start.
